QoTD - Bundy Ranch Edition

From Dana Loesch of the Blaze, as a guest on Megyn Kelly's show (H/T ENDO):
If these cattle were people and they were here illegally.. the department of justice would be running guns to them and the department of homeland security would be driving by with free government phones and EBT cards, but now that they’re cattle they are actually rounding them up and killing them.
Me, I've been pondering that Fed.gov can put hundreds of heavily armed BLM agents on the ground over a rent dispute, with drones high above, helicopters at mid-level, and snipers on the hills, but they can't get off their asses to do a frackin' thing while an ambassador gets raped, mutilated alive and murdered, and two years later there is no official responsibility for how he got hung out to be killed (as if we don't know who it was)  and nobody has had so much as a bad performance review, or a letter left in their personnel file.

Count me among the folks thinking this is far from over.  I think this whole exercise has been the equivalent of driving a humvee through Falujah to draw fire and see where the insurgents are.  They did this to see what kind of response it gets, monitor communications capabilities among the militia, look at logistics issues, deployments, and the reconnaissance they could get on what sort of resistance to expect.  FWIW, Oathkeepers is reporting that various insiders tell them the BLM is planning a raid on the Bundy home.
Not only is the BLM not actually backing off of Cliven Bundy, Sheriff Richard Mack of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association has revealed stunning information: on Ben Swann’s radio program, Mack said that he has received intelligence from multiple, credible sources inside the BLM and the Las Vegas Metro that there is “no question” that the federal government is planning a raid on the Bundy home and the homes of their children who live on the property.
As Sheriff Mack says in that interview, it's hard to imagine such a raid being accomplished without bloodshed.

As Yogi Berra said, "it ain't over til it's over"... and this one ain't over.

  1. The law part of this is clear. The BLM is right, the courts have decided the case and set an order to evit bundy's cattle. That the BLM underestimated Bundy's foolishness is clear but the BLM was simply tasked with enforcing the law. Of course it won't end here. For the sake of peace I hope the rest of this is decided in court. Frmo what I saw on the videos there is more then enough evidence to put a lot of people in jail. Where did they get the idea they could defy a court order and brandish weapons against the officers enforcing that order. Bundy is wrong, he was wrong in 1993 when he stopped paying the fees and he has always been wrong in thinking states rights trumps federal ownership of the land he was renting. Too bad. He had a lot of intelligent options and choose what is clearly the least intelligent one. I have no doubt that Bundy is a nice guy and if you were sitting in his living room talking about ranching he would be interesting and rational. But he went off the deep end with his sovereign citizen tin foil hat BS. As for the nutcases who showed up with guns they put many people at risk. The fact that they think gun violence was a suitable resolution to this tells me that perhaps a few years in jail might be the best thing for them. Perhaps the federal government shouldn't own any land at all. But that has literally nothing to do with this case. Some are trying to conflate the two issues but I am willng to bet good money that the courts decide Bundy was wrong and the BLM was right. Perhaps the federal government is getting too big. Again has nothing to do with this issue and shootouts at the OK Corral are counter productive in the effort to downsize government. This entire event has been a set back for the pro 2nd amendment people and the tea party that wpuld like to reduce the size of government.

  2. I encourage further research to the complex issues at hand as they extend back nearly 140 years.

As for the nut cases that should up with guns thinking violence is a suitable solution; that "honor" belongs to the BLM.

  3. In 1848 the land we now know as Nevada was ceded to the federal government by treaty. In 1864 Nevada attained statehood and wrote into their constitution that the federal lands were federal lands and not state lands. In the 1880's Bundy's grandfather began ranching the land. Bundy owns his own land and pays (did pay) for the right to put his cattle on some of these federal lands. In 1993 Bundy stopped paying those fees out of some crazy belief that the federal government was evil and all federal lands should belong to the state. In 2013 Bundy lost his last appeal in court and there was a court order to remove his cattle from the federal land and sell them as payment for the fees he had not payed. The BLM was the law enforcement and yes they had guns, this isn't London!
